The
Hospital Education Services (HES) provides a teaching and learning service
for school aged patients at the Flinders Medical Centre.
- The HES teacher
facilitates a student's access to the school curriculum and can assist
with the transition of students back into their own schools.
- The HES teacher visits the Paediatric ward Monday - Friday during school term
- Children and students in other wards can be seen by negotiation with the teacher.
- A classroom teaching service is provided at the FMC.
Who
can use this service?
- The Hospital
Education Services can be accessed by all school-aged children who are
likely to be in hospital for at least 2 school days or with
frequent re-admissions.
- A referral
is required to access the service.
- Students
attending Public, Independent and Catholic schools are eligible
to receive services.
How
do
we get a referral?
- Referrals are considered from medical professionals at the Flinders Medical Centre.
What
happens Next?
- On receipt
of the referral the visiting teacher will introduce themselves to the
student, liaise with the student's home school to negotiate curriculum
delivery, and provide educational support to the student.

multidisciplinary teams, including the Children's Assessment Team based
at the Flinders Medical Centre.
