BIS is a statewide, interangency partnership between Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), Department of Education and Children's Services (DECS) and Families SA (FSA).

BIS provides an intensive day program and consultancy service for young people with significant mental health issues and long standing, pervasive and persistent behaviour problems.

BIS is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of CAHMS clinicians and two DECD teachers.

At BIS the HES teachers work as an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team of clinicians and health workers to bring an educational perspective to the work of this team. With this team the teachers support both the BIS Day program and the BIS Consultancy Service. The aim of the teachers' work is to ensure the successful re-engagement of the young person in their school site. Through the use of relevant curriculum, and a range of strategies including the SMART strategies, the teachers support the students to develop their literacy, numeracy and social, group and organisational skills. Critically through this process the teachers work in partnership with the young person's school and teachers to facilitate the successful re-engagement of the young person in their school.
